Step 1: Get Hosting
The first thing you need to do is get hosting so you can run your own ecommerce website with wordpress.
You can go to Hostinger to sign up for hosting. There are other hosting sites also available in our resources page that we are partners with.
Hostinger is fast, cheap and will allow you to store your content and helps keep your website up and running with 99.9% uptime guarantee.
Sign up for the best plan for you. I will use the premium plan for this video tutorial since it has what most will need to get an ecommerce website up and running.
Step 2: Install WordPress
Now that you have hosting, you can install wordpress using the set up wizard. Just follow along.
- Create a new site
- WordPress website
- Choose ecommerce website
- Skip the theme options since we will choose one when we go to the wordpress dashboard
- Skip the plugins
- Search for the domain you want to use if you signed up to get a free domain or register one, or use a temporary domain
- Select install
Step 3: General Settings
- Now let’s go to the wordpress dashboard
- Here is where you can create your ecommerce website and online store with WordPress!
- The first thing we are going to do is go to the general settings by hovering over settings and click on general
- You can change your site title and admin email here
- Then click save
- Go to the Permalinks option
- Change it to the post name option
- Click save also
Step 4: Woocommerce Settings
Now let’s setup the woocommerce settings. To do this we are going to go to the wordpress dashboard and hover over woocommerce and click on settings.
- In the general tab put in your business information
- Add shipping zone or rate in the shipping tab
- Product tab allows you to change the weight and dimensions
- Enable taxes in product tab
- Account and privacy allows you to enable to disable reviews
- Email – you can customize the email form colors at the bottom
- Integration – no change
- Site visibility – no change – live
- Advance – we add a terms and conditions page and have that added to the drop down
Step 5: Theme Settings
This is where you can go to change the colors and the layout options.
- The header section lets you change the logo and the menu and the layout option
- The footer section lets you change the copyright and we can customize the widgets in this video tutorial
- You can also change the global color palette for the colors you want for your website
